Although the website provides diabetes-related healthy lifestyle information, it is not a substitute for, and is not intended to replace the management and education provided to people with diabetes by doctors and allied health professionals.

Information displayed within the website is up to date at the time of publishing. While we endeavour to update the information regularly, newly discovered information may not be included.

Participants register at their own risk. Diabetes WA does not accept any liability for any injury, loss or damage incurred by participating in the program or by the information provided in the program materials.

Links to any other websites are inserted for convenience only and do not constitute endorsement of material at those sites, or any associated organisation, product, service or information by Diabetes WA.

Privacy Policy

Diabetes Association of Western Australia (Incorporated) trading as Diabetes WA is committed to protecting the privacy of all the individuals it deals with. Diabetes WA is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 and undertakes to adhere to the National Privacy Principles. This document sets out Diabetes WA’s policies on handling personal information, including health information.

Diabetes WA will ensure that each individual about whom personal and/or health information is collected, stored or used has access to this policy in accordance with Diabetes WA’s obligations under the Privacy Act.

For research purposes and to offer a service suitable for our participants, two types of information are collected:

1. Personal individual information and other non-identifiable information

Personal information is collected to ensure the user is linked to the programs email service (motivation and reminder emails), login process and for research purposes (e.g. age, postcode, personal diabetes information collected) and other contact methods provided by participant for program evaluation purposes (phone & email contact details, postal information).

Other non-identifiable information is collected throughout the program. These are associated with the lifestyle questionnaire responses, and other questions answered throughout the entire program.

2. Program statistical information

The types of information collected include (but not limited to):

Frequency of user login

User traffic

Internet Provider (IP) address

Gender/age/location user breakdown

The personal and health information collected by Diabetes WA is considered to be strictly confidential. We respect your privacy at all times and are continuously working towards ensuring a safe environment for all users, where identifiable information is kept secure and used for research purposes only. Diabetes WA uses a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to its offices and secure databases to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.

Information is not disclosed or passed onto other agencies for use. Only agents/organisations who are employed to conduct services on behalf of Diabetes WA for research/admin purposes have access to this data and abide by privacy policy as determined by Australian Government Office of the Privacy Commissioner. Further more contract bodies involved in this project only have access to information collected by agreement shown in contract.

Diabetes WA agree that each service recipient has a right to access most personal information Diabetes WA holds about that service recipient. Diabetes WA reserves the right to deny access to some information in accordance with the Privacy Act and other applicable laws, however undertake to advise the service recipient of the reason for this denial.

This site uses encryption methodologies to ensure your login details and personal information is secure. Your information is stored in a secure database protected behind a server firewall.
